Cheech-who?
One of the larger stories of the summer revolved around then-Ottawa Senator Dany Heatley’s request of a trade following what he felt was a ‘diminishing role’ with the team. Many people solidified their opinion of Heatley through this process.
Like or hate Heatley the person, Heatley the hockey player landed in San Jose and saved his best work for the home opener. He scored a hat trick (including a penalty shot goal which raised a long ‘Dany Heatley’ chant from the Tank faithful).
Whatever his personal demons are, the player is a scoring machine and the Sharks made a great hockey decision to part with Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek to get him. To be fair, Ottawa appears to have put the summer behind them and are off to a strong start behind a rejuvinated Pascal Leclaire.
What the rest of the season holds for Heatley and the Sharks remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, Sharks fans have already embraced him deeply.
